Growing up on the East Side of Vancouver, Kai, the 16-year old son of an immigrant ex-convict enrolls in the theatre program of an affluent fine-arts high school on the West Side.

By night, he’s smoking cigarettes and shooting pool with drug dealers. But by day, he’s delivering monologues in drama class and improvising his way through school.
